Description
Good quality Stanley architects drawing instruments in the original solid mahogany box. The box is in excellent condition with no shrinkage splits or missing/replaced wood. Nicely crafted ‘feature’ joints with the original brass fixings in evidence to the top of the lid. Original inlaid brass cartouche and escutcheon. The lid closes perfectly square. Original hinges and lock. Comes complete with two working keys…..I cannot be certain which if any of the two are original. The padded silk panel to the lid interior is free of any tears or stains and features the Stanley trademark . Original removable tray to the base with storage space beneath. The velvet lining to the tray is in superb condition. All of the instruments look to be in very good condition and bar the three pens are believed to be original. Two of the pens are marked ‘Stanley’ one of which has a top that unscrews so as to accommodate pencil leads. The third pen is stamped ‘Halden 8523 1917’ The pen is also stamped with an arrow indicating that it was made for the military during the 1st World War.
Mark in lid and style of set suggest circa 1919? So said the seller.
