John R. Davies - Artist

John R. Davies (1899–1985) was a British painter and draughtsman. Born in Wolverhampton he attended evening classes at the Manchester School of Art after leaving school at the age of 14. His artistic journey continued as he served in the Lancashire Fusiliers from 1917. Under the tutelage of Adolphe Valette, he studied full-time at the Manchester School of Art. Additionally, Davies honed his skills at the studio of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts (Mafa), where he became a member.


Davies was also affiliated with the Stockport Art Guild, eventually serving as its president in 1959. His artistic contributions extended to the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (Ri). Upon retiring, he became a member of the Haslemere Art Society and was a founding member of the Art Society in Midhurst, Sussex, where he resided.


His work graced the Royal Academy (RA) exhibitions, and he held several solo shows in Buxton and Manchester. Notably, the Tib Lane Gallery exhibited a selection of his work in 1994.
