Description
One of the best crops we have ever handled, the piece presents in near perfect condition with a deer antler handle above a superbly detailed silver mount (hallmarked for London with a maker's mark of Wd) repousse decorated with foliate style scrolls and flowerheads. Within a shield-shaped cartouche, the silver mount bears the engraved inscription;
'Presented To J.Hussey Esq. On Leaving Faversham March 1st 1884 By His Late Employees'.
The beautiful wooden shaft (fruitwood?) is of exceptional colour and patination and retains its original polished finish and in turn, is above a traditionally styled leather tongue (keeper) with original thread-bound top.
A truly wonderful and scarce 19th century example in tip-top condition, rarely found in such good order.
The crop measures 80cm long (including extended leather tongue) and as ever, will be shipped free of shipping charges to any destination within the UK or we are very happy to quote for delivery to The USA or Europe-wide.
