Wall Clock: Rare 10” English Fusee Drop Dial Timepiece from 1850 by Felix Lecluse

We offer for consideration, this rare and appealing 10” fusee drop dial timepiece from the early-Victorian period, by distinguished watch and clockmaker Felix Lecluse of London. Born 1817 in France, Lecluse, having completed his horological apprentiship, made his way to London in order to continue with his chosen profession. By 1842, he was working in the affluent area of Soho, from 40 Dean Street, London W1. However, by c1848, Lecluse had moved his operations to 7 Frith Street, Soho (from where this clock would have been made), before handing the business over to his son Felix Henri Leon Lecluse (born 1847), who focused solely on making pocket watches. The lovely hand-crafted, two-wood cabinet work includes a light Walnut veneered octogen-shaped head over a solid Mahogany drop box with a glazed central visible pendulum aperture. The case embellishment includes beautiful brass floral leaf intarsia, geometrically positioned around the head, whilst the box retains its original carved Acanthus styled side-ears and has a hinged side inspection door. The clocks rare and original convex 10” metal dial has black painted Roman numerals and Lecluse's details, finished with its original pair of blued Straight Breguet hands secured with a pinned collet. In order to marry-up the clocks convex shaped face, the dial is then protected by a convex glaze mounted in its brass bezel. The clock also benefits from a quality 8-day single fusee driven movement with rectangular plates and turned pillars, complete with its original brass pendulum rod and bob and a brass winding key. In his day, Lecluse was renowned for producing wonderful, prestige timepieces and as such, his high-quality precision craftsmanship always stimulates interest when seen on the market today.
