Alfred Thomas Wright and Thomas Needham Mansfield were the finest cabinet makers of marquetry furniture in london at this period. They won many accolades of great acclaim and gold medals when exhibiting at international exhibitions,in 1862-67-76 (paris universelle exposition..London international, Philidelphia centennial) and they were presented at the paris exhibition with a gold medal by the Emperor Napolean Iii himself. The extremely fine quality elegant proportioned shaped inverted four door break-fronted satinwood exhibition quality credenza on offer in the high neo-classical style is profusely inlaid with floral and classical motifs, picked out in exotic woods, such as thuyawood, satinwood, ebony, pearwood, holly, mulberry, amboyna and burl oak and walnut, the two glazed exposed centre doors, with a fitted shelve behind still retaining its faded purple satin covered interior, flanked by a pair of finely executed floral panels of the finest quality, inlayed with griffins supporting an elaborate floral urn with spiralling flowers, from the antique, supported at the sides with classical half fluted corinthian pilasters with carved giltwood capitals, the whole surmounted by a canopy top shaped door finely carved with a walnut half moon panel depicting vines and accanthus leaves, with the background picked out in gold leaf.the cabinet is mounted throughout with carved giltwood beading and appliques.the brass london locks fitted are fully working with Keys. Provenance.A simular cabinet was exhibited at the paris exposition in 1867 and at the Philidelphia centennial, USA. Many examples of wright and mansfield works can be seen in major museum collections throughout the world..on the verso of this credenza it is Inscribed (Allan Grange Bridge of Allan).
