Description
Here is the most original, attractive and useful antique mahogany display cabinet or bookcase, with glass fronted doors which have an ogee arch wooden overlay. I believe this cabinet to be either late eighteenth century or early ninteenth century. The glass panes to the doors are all made and fitted as separate pieces, rather than as one sheet, as on later antique cabinets. The piece is heavy and solid and very well made. The lock plate has textured detail. There are four small drawers fitted inside at the base of the cabinet. It has a coving style top, with a slight overhang to the main body of the cabinet. It would suit a Georgian, Victorian or medieval style property very well indeed, or perhaps a musuem. The overall height of the cabinet is about 41.5 inches (105.5 cm). The maximum width of the top (with the coving) is about 38 5/8th inches (98 cm). The depth of the top about 13.5 inches (34.5 cm). The depth of the cupboard part is about 11.5 inches (29.5 cm). The width of the cupboards part about 34 3/4 inches (88 cm). There are two fully height adjustable shelves present. The shelf rails are about 2 1/2 inches (96cm) apart. There are four low drawers towards the base, the outer two measure about 8.5 inches (21.5 cm) in width, whilst the inner two measure about 7 3/4 inches (19.5 cm). All of the drawers measure 10 inches (25 cm) in depth.
