Description
1913 Sterling Silver Borgel cased Fontainemelon Trench Watch
34mm diameter, Sterling Silver Borgel cased Fontainemelon Trench Watch, the letter "S" indicating import hallmark, London 1913, by GS Stockwell & Co (George Stockwell), also the letters F.B above a key was the registered trade mark for Francois Borgel, who invented the Borgel screw case that was adopted by many of the leading Swiss watch manufactures including Longines, Iwc, Vacheron Constantin and Patek Phillippe.
The very high quality Fontainemelon 17 Jewell movement was very similar to the watch movement worn by George Hillary for the 1924 Mount Everest expedition (the only difference being Hillary's had a Perlage (engine turned) finish to the plates), the movement benefits from a full strip down and recent service by us, the condition is commensurate with a movement made in the last decade, it is in outstanding condition for 110+ years old.
The white enamel unsigned dial is in unmarked and appears to be in original condition, indicating the hours with black Roman Numerals, the 12 o'clock marker being red, with a subsidiary dial at 6 o'clock displaying the seconds, complemented by blued spade hands.
The watch is presented on an old but not original brown leather strap and will come with 12 months guarantee.
