Description
Bespoke Iron Work Candelabra converted Standard Lamp French circa 19th Century Tall and Stately Artisan Hand Forged Wrought Iron Work Gothic Style Elegant stable Tripod Base Wear consistent with age and use Converted from Candelabra Now Rewired and Pat Tested Crafted by hand in France in the 19th Century this delightful, handsome and stately candelabra stands on an elegant tripod base with small feet. It is almost 5’ in height and has been converted from a beautiful torchiere style wrought iron candelabra that was used in a chapel. The combination of Gothic aesthetics and conversion to standard lamp certainly give this immense appeal. Made in the 19th Century when work was carried out with fine materials, great skill and attention to detail has certainly ensured longevity for this bespoke item. This candelabra was made of wrought iron, known for its durability and rustic appearance and featured an elegant and simple design, reflecting the Gothic or medieval style prevalent during that period. The tripod base provides stability, and the stem originally held a single large candle. It would have been used to hold a large candle that was lit when offering prayers and prior to the celebration of mass; thus illuminating the chapel interior, especially in dimly lit spaces. Its design allowed for easy placement near the altar, choir stall, or other important area. The original candle pricket (the spike that held the candle) has been replaced with a light socket. The result is a unique blend of historical charm and functional lighting and it would certainly add character and historical charm to any space. Candles are often used to create a romantic or calm ambience within a room and this gorgeous lamp offers the opportunity to replicate this; it would well with any style from traditional, farmhouse, arts and crafts, to minimalist modern or industrial.
