19th Century Turkish Pictorial (Hunting Scene) Rug. West Anatolia. 171cm X 125cm

Finely knotted by Armenian weavers in Western Turkey, based on an early 16th Century Persian Safavid hunting scene design. Main border with fighting animals on a royal blue ground. Has a nice yellow and a very pale light green. This example has low pile, possibly silk or art silk throughout with wear. Nevertheless still looks stunning hung on a wall, (see last images) as the previous owner did, just like early Flemish tapestries. To the rear is a calico flap to insert a pole through for hanging purposes. Interesting rug offered at very buyable money for the look! 5 foot 7 inches by 4 foot 1 inches, 171cm x 125cm, at widest points. Fringes not measured in size.
