This is an antique cased microscope. An English, black enamel scientific instrument by J. Swift & Son of London, dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1910.
Nicely presented and appealing scientific instrument, ideal for display. Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good original order. Enamelled metal body in striking black, with highly contrasting polished brass. Mahogany carry box shows rich caramel hues and benefits from a working lock — key present.
Extendable eyepiece tube with a rack and pinion main focus guide. Slide stage dressed with a pair of rotary clips and annotated with a grid scale. Single objective mounted to the scope with a pair of accessory lenses within the box. Bright mirror beneath the slide holder, mounted on a rotating arm.
Maker's mark in crisp white paint for J. Swift & Son, London
The scope fits neatly within the carry case with segmented compartments for further accessories. Matched J. Swift lenses present in striking golden casings. Trio of glass slides and a box of later Rotring ink wells included.
