Description
This is an antique claret jug. An English, cut glass and silver plated decanter, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.
Fascinatingly decorative jug with a host of eye-catching finishes that displays a desirable aged patina and in good original order. Cut glass in good condition, with a clear, bright appearance. Quality silver plated upper and fluted handle shows minimal tarnishing.
Lid adorned with a fretwork handle above a domed section, engraved with diamond pattern. Highly distinctive spout in the form of a bearded male mask, the brim of his hat being the spout edge. Skilfully finished diamond cut pattern accentuates the body.
Wide circular base hosts deeply cut diamond shaped lobes. The base finished with a striking 40-point star burst cut. Bears the maker's initials for William Batt & Sons, Sheffield.
