Description
A most attractive early 19th century antique English Victorian papier-mâché ladies needlework casket, profusely inlaid with abalone shell pearl and heightened with gilding.
The two hinged panels decorated with images of churches, each within a framework of foliage, the handle fixed, the interior retaining its original lining paper.
Sadly now with no maker's name, but merely the remains of a paper label which can be seen affixed to the base of the piece. Almost certainly made in Wolverhampton, the centre of the papier-mâché industry in England at this period.
