Description
Antique French two door armoire made around 1900 probably, in a hardwood and veneer. Two shaped, panelled doors open on to a hanging space with wooden hooks. Please note: although a rail has been added, there is not enough depth for normal coat hangers; smaller ones at an angle maybe, but this is best used as a guest wardrobe or for other uses. We'll happily put shelves in it for you but that would cost a bit more. There is a shaped skirt and four feet at the base; the front ones being carved. At the top is an imposing carved crest with side finials. The top can be removed for transport but otherwise it doesn't dismantle. Dimensions: 113cm x 50cm x 205cm (height at rear 183cm; inside depth 40cm)

condition
Condition is pretty good for the age: structurally it's sound enough; the doors work fine and the body is quite solid. Cosmetically there are various scuffs and scrapes; a few scratches on the sides (see pics); some chipping to the veneer here and there (mostly on a back leg) and some minor damage to the door beading. The crest has been repaired at various times. Inside there are some chunks missing by the rail where someone stupid hasn't understood how the top fixes on (pictured). The top stays on fine anyway. The lock works but the keyhole sleeve part is missing so the key (which is particularly long) hangs down somewhat forlornly. There's a modern magnet catch holding the door shut, so it isn't really needed. However there's no handle: the key was used for that; you can easily open it using the door trim or we can find a suitable knob or handle. Some minor old woodworm holes: we've treated them for good measure.
