Description
Antique pine large pigeon hole shelving unit with 36 cubby holes, made around 1920 probably. There's a cornice on the top which has been bevelled across the right hand corner. Various layers of paint applied over the years: the latest being yellow; we've rubbed this through to the green and grey below and to the bare wood in places, then waxed it. The insides are unwaxed. It has been cut in to two sections down the middle at some point: we've screwed it together from the back and from under the shelves at the front. It's fairly simple to do (no doubt you'll have it delivered in two parts..) but does benefit from a clamp, or rope, or strong helpers pushing it together while it's screwed tight. You could of course use these in two opposite alcoves, which would look great either side of a chimney breast.

condition
Condition is pretty good structurally: it's solid enough; there's some gaps in some of the backboards but it doesn't affect the strength. Cosmetically there are lots of scuffs, dings and chips, as you might expect from a long working life. Some old graffiti inside; plainly this was used in an old school; we've reduced that to a minimum. The paint is obviously distressed. The top is split on the left section; we've screwed it down from above and it's fine, though there's some fairly apparent misalignment across the top and cornice where they join. All part of the rustic feel really. Some historic woodworm under the base; we've treated it for good measure.
