Description
This is an antique raised chest. A Korean, elm and pear wood side cabinet with brass fittings, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1880. Superb Korean craftsmanship with delightful brass tones displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order. Select elm shows fine grain interest and deep caramel hues. Pear wood and persimmon adds further distinction. Quartet of small drawers to the upper apron above a cabinet door to centre. Each drawer dressed with a shaped and pierced drop handle over foliate backplates. Fascinating butterfly shaped hinges create a jovial appearance - a Korean symbol of prosperity, pleasure and joy. Circular clasp with loop holding the doors together, with a pin lock for added security. Charming pin lock finished in the form of a decorative fish. Doors open wide to reveal the generous, clean interior. Abundance of shaped brackets adorn the edges of the cabinet. Raised upon four shaped bracket feet beneath a sash lower apron. This is a fascinating antique raised chest, with striking Korean craftsmanship. Versatile and unusual. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home. We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee with all of our antiques. Please contact us if you require any further information - we are here to help.
