A beautiful and very unusual early antique Victorian mahogany architects desk. This was made in England, and I would date it from the 1840-1860 period.
It appears as a regular pedestal desk with a gold tooled leather top, turned mahogany handles and bun feet. However, on the back, there are gate leg supports that swing out, and the top unfolds to reveal a larger inner work space. There is another inset leather top inside that can be angled upwards, and six small storage compartments with lids.
We have had this re-polished, and it is in lovely condition for its age. The colour tone and patina of the mahogany are lovely. The outer leather top has some surface wear and light marks, with one tiny repair to the leather in the middle. We could have it re-leathered, but right now the leather matches the one inside.
This is quite a rare and useful piece of furniture and is also of very high quality.
