Description
This is an antique Wainscote armchair. A Scottish, oak carved throne chair, dating to the mid Georgian period and later, circa 1750.
Superb example, with a carved back rest and sinuous arms, displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order. Select oak stocks present fine grain interest and deep caramel hues. Further accentuated by wisps of medullary rays.
Gently angled back rest with chamfered top rail. Fascinating carved back, proudly displaying a Scottish thistle decor. Profuse with scrolled detail and fleur de lys motif over a charming heart. Downswept arms cascade to the broad, rolled knuckles.
Each arm raised upon a short baluster turned support. Seat squab set at a comfortable height of 43.5cm (17.25'') - wide set for generous width. Raised upon turned and collared front legs, with wide, square sections at rear. United to each side with a tall stretcher rail, set within block feet.
This is a fascinating antique Wainscote armchair, skilfully crafted from appealing Scottish oak stocks. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee with all of our antiques.
