Bright Copper Starboard Ship’s Lantern by ‘Seahorse’

Striking polished copper navigation lantern for the starboard side from a ship, this has the brass label for the ‘Seahorse’ maker of Birmingham, England. – Brightly polished copper, with glass lens to the front. – Plate at one side lifts up with the handle to access the internal lamp fixtures. – Two brass label plates: the top shows ‘Starboard’; below this it says ‘Seahorse Gb Trademark’ with an image of a composite creature with a horse’s head and a fish tail, with the number S55231 beneath. – The Seahorse trademark was used by Bocock & Wilkinson of Birmingham for ship’s lights from 1900, continuing as Bocock & Son, and from around the 1930s as George Bocock & Co. – Cap at top lifts to give access to internal space, and the handle at the side lifts the plate up to reveal the lamp fixtures. – Tap screw on plate on the side opposite to the sliding lift plate. – Handle at top will allow it to be hung. This will make a fabulous statement piece for an interior decorator, with the polished copper perhaps making a great addition to a large country kitchen display. It will also make a wonderful piece for a marine style restaurant or nautical themed bar. It might also be converted to an electric lamp.
