magnificent and Impressive- Gillows - Maples quality set of three designer Arts & Crafts golden oak graduated William & Mary style library display cabinets, Edwin Luytens at this period adapted traditional English architectural styles to the modern day requirements, originaly from the the royal ballet school at the White Lodge, Richmond Park, Richmond.the lodge was built in the 18th Century and was in private hands until 1954 in 1955 it was taken over by the sadlers wells ballet company as its junior school, which was later given the title of the royal ballet school. These fine cabinets on offer graced the library of this distinguished listed residence, commissioned and made in about.1905-1910, they were taken out of the ballet school in the late 20th century, because more room was required by the school in there expansions,the cabinets housed a collection of silver cups and trophies which were sold at phillips auction, London in the year 2000 at this time the three cabinets on offer were dismantled and placed in storage, they lay there for nearly two decades,neglected and unloved.we recently acquired these great cabinets and restored them to there previous best in our own workshop.the three graduated cabinets are all the same height to there bonnet shaped arched top being 240cm they are of elegant narrow proportions,and sectional.the interiors have multiple adjustable oak shelves,with a panelled back in oak.
The largest cabinet no.1 is 272cm wide, depth of base 41cm depth of top 28cm ,total height.240cm.and has six glazed opening doors, with nine graduated draws below with crossbanded inlays and brass drop handles, with regd mark, the cupboards below have raised convex panels with further brass handles attactched, terminating on an horse shoe shaped stretcher, with finely turned legs and feet.all locks working ,keys supplied.
Cabinet no.2. has four glazed doors,and a combination of eight draws and four cupboards below.height.240cm.width.234cmall locks working.keys supplied.total width 214cm.
Cabinet no.3. two door bookcase, is 95cm wide,height.240cm.
The brass lock plates are stamped Hobbs & co, London. Special quality lever.all locks are working and supplied with keys, there are signs of ware throughout the trio monumental bookcases, commensurate with there age and usage, which adds to there warmth, charm and character. All locks working keys supplied.with adjustable shelving to suite
These great cabinets would grace any majestic space available library to palace..total length of all 3 bookcases combined is 581cm.a great run of bookcases
