Description
This is a fine pair of mid 19th century French 50 bore target or duelling pistols by an important maker, each rifled with ten grooved octagonal, sighted 24cm barrels, tangs numbered 1 and 2 in gold, scroll engraved hammers and locks which are both signed Devisme, Paris, similarly engraved spur trigger guards, carved and fluted stocks with shaped pommel caps drawn out to a blunt diamond. Both guns have the impressed numbers 2213 and 2274 on the butts close to the pommels. Housed in a later blue baize lined oak case.
The maker is almost certainly Louis-François Devisme who exhibited at many of the Paris Expositions and was awarded a prize medal at the Great Exhibition of 1851 held in London and made guns for royalty including Prince Albert.
Nb. This is an obsolete calibre pistol and is therefore classed by the Home Office as a collector's item. There is no necessity to own a firearms license to sell or own this piece.

condition
condition
Evidence of old light pitting to barrels. Tip of one hammer has been replaced. One half cocks and fires but trigger has to be pushed forward after firing to re-set. One cocks, holds and fires in both positions but hammer doesn't strike nipple. Walnut stocks and butts in good condition. Later case. The few condition issues are reflected in the sensible price for such a lovely pair of pistols by a top Parisian maker.
