South west Persia, circa 1880. Beautiful colourful early Khamseh tribal rug. Unique central design in vertical rows of flower heads, botehs and vegetal motifs in shades of turquoise, green, yellow and reds on a midnight dark blue ground. Lovely tribal border design and notice towards the bottom end a complete change of outer guard stripe pattern making it for a beautiful overall weaving from this group. Even fringes and side cords. There are a few professional old reweaves towards the centre as you would expect from a piece of this age to preserve it's beauty and overall look. Combining age, rarity of design, colour and fineness of weave makes for a very special weaving which would look equally as good on the floor or wall hung as a feature.
