Lalique "Royat" Pattern Clear & Frosted Glass Vase Designed by Rene Lalique 1936
This is a beautiful Lalique “Royat" clear and frosted glass vase decorated in the Art Deco style. Fully signed to the base in script, Lalique France.
Originally designed by Rene Lalique in 1936, model number 10-921. Fantastic quality.
A good sized piece standing 16cm tall and measuring 16cm in diameter at the mouth
Royat is a town in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of central France with a population of under 5000 (2018). It's around a 4 hour drive almost due south from Paris. Royat's thermal springs made it a well known and popular spa town going back to Roman times.
This vase is widely reported to have originally been a special commission for the Marquise de Sévigné chocolatier and many examples have appeared signed both R. Lalique France and Marquise de Sévigné - Paris. The company website relates Royat to the owners of the chocolatier as follows: In 1892, a young couple originally from Royat, in Auvergne, full of energy and wisdom, bought a tiny local factory, the “Chocolaterie of Royat”.
