Description
A very large and heavy pair of hand wrought iron Arts & Crafts style Andirons or Firedogs. Andirons were originally made so that logs could be placed upon them to burn in an open fireplace in order that air would circulate under the firewood and thereby allowing better burning and less smoke.
Very skillfully made and in excellent condition, this highly stylised pair in the country house taste display trefoil feet, tapering canted uprights and finish in highly decorative open scrolling terminals. A true testament to the blacksmiths art.
