When you find a piece as nice as this it starts to tell you a story straight away.
This is one of the nicest late 19th Century pine two door cupboards I have come across for a while and a great size.
Firstly the colour is sublime, the style is wonderful, it shows off the life its had, and remarkably it has been looked after over the years and treated with care.
It has all the surface wear you come to expect of old pine. Study the timber and it's like a road map of its life and the timber shows the unique look created over time, a truly wonderful piece of furniture.
That is what makes this cupboard absolutely beautiful in every way. Not to mention the fretwork skirting to the the front and sides. Shaker style flat doors, but they used solid pine everywhere, so there are a raised and fielded panels inside with a very subtle beading around the edges.
Diamond shaped brass escutcheon with the original lock and all important key. Look inside and it also has a brass hook door retainer that rests on the shelf.
Very hard to come by this type of quality and charaterful pine these days.
