Description
Offered for sale is a limited edition "Rutland County" plate. Rutland is a landlocked county in the East Midlands of England, bounded to the west and north by Leicestershire, to the northeast by Lincolnshire and the southeast by Northamptonshire.
Its greatest length north to south is only 18 miles (29 km) and its greatest breadth east to west is 17 miles (27 km). It is the smallest historic county in England because of this, the Latin motto "Multum in Parvo" or "much in little" was adopted by the county council in 1950. The plate was commissioned by the Furleys of Oakham (the county town)and designed by Stephen Barnsley for Caverswall.
Decorated in hues of green and yellow on a white ground it features the county crest at it's centre. The plate is bordered with oak leaves and acorns and geometric bands with the words "Rutland County". Around the border are vignettes of local scenes of Oakham Castle, Burley-On-The Hill, Preston Hunt Meeting, Rutland Water and Butlers Cross. The plate is numbered 126 of only 500 issued.
