Gordon Cockburn's talent in the visual arts has been commented upon since his early childhood years having been born in 1944. he was brought up in a poor family that was unable to support any education in art and therefore he had to travel and work in a variety of settings whilst continuing to pursue his calling in art. He hails from a proud mining ancestry and his strong sense of identity, family, community, passions and emotions are evidenced in watercolours, ink drawings, pastels and oils. Gordon is well travelled, including Amsterdam, Venice, Paris, France, Turkey, Greece and Poland. These travels have influenced his work which can be seen in galleries and exhibitions worldwide.
