Description
A rare early 20th century reverse painting on glass of good size, Lusitania and Mauretania at Bell rock lighthouse. This beauty comes in its original frame and pre-dates the sinking of Lusitania. The glossy surface of the glass really adds to the depth of this picture. There are small areas of ware and tare which only adds to the character.
Lusitania was briefly the world's largest passenger ship until the completion of the Mauretania three months later. She was torpedoed on her 202nd trans-Atlantic crossing, on 7 May 1915, by a German U-boat and sank 11 miles off the southern coast of Ireland, killing 1,198 passengers and crew.
