Description
Mid 19th Century Indian polychrome painted screen divider. The shaped pieced, carved top rail, decorated with pineapples and scroll work throughout, the centre tapering down to either side, raised above the plain frieze, leading to 11 shaped, vertical splats, each behind the shaped, carved apron, itself featuring floral and scroll carvings throughout, edged throughout with an undulating, shaped beading. Below is a central, full width pierced panel, the centre with a cross, flanked to either side with two short and one long rectangular piercing, with circles to either end of each rectangle. The last panel consists of eleven pierced, shaped splats, each pierced wit three circles, divided with opposing heart shapes. The legs with a finial to the top, above a variety of turned rings, a large section of barley twisting, and balusters, terminating on an outswept foot to either side, itself featuring scroll work carving. The screen is painted throughout with red, green, blue and gold, typical of Indian colour schemes.
