Modernist Gordon Russell Oak Cotswold School Chest of Drawers c.1930
From the range designed by Dick Russell in 1934, we have this rather beautiful modernist chest of 3 drawers in a lighter shade of English oak.
We have 3 long drawers made with single plank fronts, solid drawer carcasses joined with hand-cut lap and through dovetails, finished with hand turned walnut knobs. The lines are good, never easy to design something “simple” looking - well done Dick! As you would expect the grains and tones are spot on from Gordon Russell.
The condition is good - the original walnut knobs, often lost or swapped out are in place, we have light wear to the top and sides, nothing nasty or off-putting . We have carefully cleaned and very lightly waxed the piece and it is ready to place. Perfect for so many spaces and such a well executed design - please note we are fortunate to have a few other pieces of the same design from Gordon Russell.
Billy Hunt has successfully focused on British furniture and lighting since 2014 and always has an interesting ever changing selection of carefully chosen pieces from the early 1800s to late 1970s. Our base is a large Victorian 2 storey red brick barn on a wonderful traditionally run country estate in Staffordshire. We are able to offer a first class upholstery service and also assistance in interior design if requested.
Our extensive client base covers; the celebrated, interior designers, film companies and ladies and gentlemen like us who enjoy our professional, friendly and knowledgeable approach. If you wish to visit just give us a call or email.
