Oil Painting of Horse & Dog by William Eddowes Turner
This is a fine oil on artist board depicting a horse and collie dog by William Eddowes Turner (1836-1904). The work is beautifully done depicting both the horse and dog wonderfully and is titled on the reverse: A couple of old friends. The painting is in excellent condition and is signed W.Turner to the lower left. William Eddowes Turner was born in Nottingham, a self-taught artist of animals, particularly cattle, in both oil and watercolour. He exhibited at the British Institution and Suffolk Street and locally in Nottingham 1858-1862. He died at Radford, Nottinghamshire in 1904. He is a highly regarded provincial animal artist. This work is framed in the original gilt which is in good antique condition with some areas of restoration.
The whole is a great animal painting with a huge amount of appeal.
