Description
Fine quality etching by this late Victorian master of the technique. Another copy of this image is in the National Gallery of Art in Washington. William Strang RA (1859-1921) was a Scottish painter and printmaker, notable for illustrating the works of Bunyan, Coleridge and Kipling. He was born at Dumbarton, he worked for fifteen months in the counting-house of a firm of shipbuilders before going to London in 1875. He studied at the Slade under Alphonse Legros at the Slade School where he became became assistant master in the etching class. He was one of the original members of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers, and was elected a full Ra shortly before his death in 1921.

condition
The visible areas of the plate and sheet are in good condition but I have not removed the picture from the original frame so I have not viewed under the mounted area.
