This is a pair of antique figurative bookends. A Dutch, plaster seated man and woman book rest, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900. Appealing example of Dutch craftsmanship, with jovial character. Displaying a desirable aged patina with some small repairs under inspection. Some light weathering to the black finished plaster reveals warm saffron hues. Each figure presented seated, with charmingly naive poses. Maker's initials present to the lower edge, reading 'Jj'.
