Pocket Watch: A Fabulous 1880 Open-faced Silver Dial Fusee Pocket Watch by Arthur Cotton of Birmingham

Fabulous and high-quality, Victorian open-faced silver fusee pocket watch, by master watchmaker Arthur Cotton, of 11 Kent Street, Birmingham, (then Warwickshire). Born in 1838, Cotton came from a well-documented family dynasty of much respected Birmingham watchmakers, a dynasty that continued into the early nineteen-hundreds. Hallmarked London 1880, the watch has a silver dial with machine turned Moiré pattern and a subsidiary second’s dial, with blued hands, raised Gothic style gold numerals and hand-crafted gold and silver floral decoration. The fusee movement with dust cap and engraved Coventry made Star Mark of quality, has a bimetallic balance and ruby end stone. The case maker was William Richard Bishop (“W.R.B”), of Hill Street, Coventry and the case and movement serial numbers are the same, “12807.” The watch comes securely packed with a winding key, together with instructions on how to wind and set the watch time.
