Description
The watch has a Swiss three quarter plate stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 54mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the back covers for London (import mark), 1918, together with a sponsor’s mark for George Stockwell.
From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.
The case is in good condition, just a small ding between the hinges at the bottom of the watch.
The back of the watch is engraved, ‘W A Everitt, Bloomsbury Boys’ School, 1922-23’.
The London school, under the Patronage of the Duke of Bedford, had 400 pupils. On Monday mornings, the boys were encouraged to repeat the text they had heard in church the previous day, naming the place of worship and the Minister, all to ensure that they listened and paid attention.
The glass lens is in lovely condition.
The dial is also in very nice condition with pin-set gold hands and blued steel chronograph hand. The chrono hand is operated by way of the sliding button on the side of the case. When the chronograph feature is switched off, the watch movement also stops ticking… this was how it was originally designed.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
