Description
The movement and case both have Vacheron / Vacheron & Constantin marks which look correct but we have been unable to confirm 100% that this is a genuine piece.
The watch has a stem-winding movement, signed Vacheron, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is engraved with the wording, ‘Examined by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd, 112 Regent St, London, Swiss Made’.
The watch measures 47mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and is hallmarked for London 1912 with a sponsor’s mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. There is also the Vacheron & Constantin V&C mark, along with the Maltese cross. The front cover is in good condition, it has a small central lens surrounded by Roman numerals. The back of the watch has some fairly gentle unevenness.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.
Inside, there is a glass lens which is in lovely condition.
The dial is in very nice condition too with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. The watch has the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
