Description
These are a rare pair of hand-tooled solid oak Mouseman bookends with 'extra large' mice! Quite possibly a private commission and age-wise would think circa 1970s or slightly later. Very nice figuring indeed (please study images) to the tooled lightish oak and in excellent condition. It is worth noting that the carved signature mice on 'normal' Mouseman bookends are much smaller and these are the biggest mice I have ever encountered on a pair of Mouseman bookends. Of very nice colour and heavy in the hand, the pair of bookends exhibit the usual fine quality carving and tooling associated with the team of Mouseman workshop experts that have to complete a 5 year apprenticeship before they are 'allowed' to carve the mice. All of the oak wood used for Mouseman items (both furniture and smaller items) has to season for many years before it is used and it is a fact that prices and values of Mouseman pieces have shot up dramatically over the last few years with collectors and dealers around the globe vying for the rarest and best examples. The length of the corpulent mice is 7.5cm and this measurement does not include the tails! The height of the mice is around 2 full centimeters from the main block as they climb with long, shaped, tapering tails to the tops of the tooled bookends. The bookends will be shipped Asap to the buyer and if within the UK, will incur no shipping charges. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or for any further information required.
