Overall, this lightly revitalised trinket box is in good condition. As mentioned, the lid remains a little matt, but we hold the view this was preferable to a full refinishing.
The silverwork is relatively good reflecting its age with several small dinks. The legs are solid and intact, as is the base of the piece.
There are some very small abrasions to the rim of the shell lid, but they do not impact the aesthetic or practical appeal of this box.
One thing potential buyers should be aware of is that it does wear a permanent smile (i.e. the lid is always slightly ajar), see photographs. However, alteration of the hinge to remedy this would likely make the box uneconomic and potentially condemn it to ‘scrapping’, something we just can’t countenance, except as a very last resort.
So please rescue this little gem, as it is still a good solid trinket box that has all the potential to offer another hundred years (or more) of reliable service.
