I specialise in affordable original artworks - mainly traditional watercolours and oil paintings but I also have a range of contemporary artworks including limited edition lithographic prints. I also stock a limited selection of antiques and collectables, including treen, ceramics and glass. I have now opened a shop in Wallingford (OX100BU) between Reading and Oxford, but I also trade online. My website, www.artandstuffgallery.com has a gallery section with several mini-galleries where my items are displayed, including more contemporary items not shown on LoveAntiques.

Description
This is of American interest! A "Stevengraph" of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Produced for the Chicago Exposition in 1891. It shows Thomas Jefferson (in black) at a table surrounded by other members of Congress.
Stevengraphs are pictures woven in silk, invented by Thomas Stevens ca 1862. In 1862 Stevens had only four designs but over 900 by the late 1880s. They were mostly bookmarks or greetings cards; some scenes from history as in this example, or hunting or military scenes. This example is in its original mount on which is printed "Woven in pure silk at the world's Columbian Exposition, Chicago 1891"".
The frame is also glazed verso to show the original advertising material of other Stevengraphs then available.
