Description
During 1700 and 1800, a period of great exploration and travel, folding chamber candlesticks/Brighton Buns were an essential bit of kit in every adventurer's travelling paraphernalia. Compact and portable, it took up little room in a trunk and resembled a small cake, hence the name it came to be known by – the Brighton Bun.
This is a beautiful piece of antique treen, possibly olive wood, circa late 19th-early 20th century. Consisting of two drip pan bases which screw together to form a circular bun. When unscrewed the base divides into two halves revealing two candle cups.
