This 19th Century (c.1870) Victorian antique camphorwood campaign trunk would have been purchased by a British officer who was in service in the Far East. These were made of camphorwood, a timber that gives off a beautiful perfume, that we adore but the insects and moths avoid. This meant the uniforms would not get attacked by these insects. The trunk with the lifting lid that opens to reveal full storage inside. The exterior has brass straps to protect the chest as it was loaded onto wagons, carts, and ships.
