Description
This is an exceptional, and probably unique, 19th century glass tumbler which has four different heraldic badges, crests and arms engraved in diamond point, around the bowl. This includes the Price Of Wales Feathers with the name Isabella MacKovy 1863 below in script writing, a secondary date 26th Mat 1863. Next is the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom containing the motto 'Dieu Et Mon Proit" which translates to "God And My Right". The third is a conjugal coat of arms containing the Royal Coat of Arms and the Arms if the Prince of Wales. The final heraldic arms is the largest showing extensive regalia to the borders. Once again including the Royal Coat of Arms as a conjugal arms alongside an unknown arms, Both contain the motto ‘Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense’, which translates to ‘Evil unto him that thinks evil of it’. Slice cuts down the sides of a deceptive base with a polished pontil. Comments:- The sheer amount of work involved in producing this volume of diamond point, to such a very high standard, would mark this glass as a rather special example, potentially indicating a marriage from Wales into the Royal family. A rather unique glass. Date & Origin England, c1860
