Description
Scarce, well coloured and titled mid 19th Century English Victorian antique Staffordshire Pottery Royal Portrait Figure of the "Prince of Wales" ~ P A189 ~ H 622, the title in raised capitals reading "Pr. Of Wales". Standing, bare-headed, in military uniform, to the right of a broad chair; a plumed cocked hat held in his left hand. Pugh { Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Era ~ A.C.C. Woodbridge ~ 1970 }, notes that the Prince, together with his brother Alfred, whose equally hard to find figure forms the pair to this piece, received his first commission in 1858, suggesting that the pair were issued in that year to mark the occasion.
