Anthony Benjamin was an abstract painter and printmaker and was born in Boarhunt, Hampshire. He studied art at the Regent Street Polytechnic, London, then in the Paris studio of Fernand Leger 1951. In 1955 he settled in St Ives, Cornwall and later studied with S. W. Hayter at the famous Atelier 17 in Paris 1958-59. He exhibited widely including a one man show at the Newlyn Art Gallery 1958 and at Gimpel Fils. His work is held internationally, including in the Tate Gallery, Arts Council Collection, the British Council, Ferens Art Gallery Hull, Government Art Collection, Manchester Art Gallery, Southampton City Art Gallery, Victoria Gallery & Museum Liverpool, York Art Gallery and Moma New York.
