Francis Calcraft Turner who was best known for horse portraits, horse racing genre and portrait painting. The majority of Turner's hunting scenes show hunts from the South of England including the Essex Hounds, the East Kent and the Old Berkeley and he was also a noted regular contributor to the 19th century 'Sporting Magazine' providing no less than 78 works. In 1828, he wrote ''I have rode to more hounds... and my knowledge of racing, shooting and coursing, etc. than any artist in existence''
