George Frederick Nicholls was born in Cheshire in 1857 and was a landscape and flower artist who specialised in watercolours. Most of his work was shown at the Walkers Gallery, London where he showed 142 pieces but he also exhibited 51 works at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, 20 at the RI, 10 at the RA and 32 at the RCA. He lived in Oxford and Worcestershire where much of his painting was carried out. He painted the illustrations for a series of country books for A&C Black, including Cornwall (1915) and Cotswolds (1920). He died in 1939.
