Hermoine Hammond - Artist

Hermoine Hammond (1910-2005) was a painter of oils, watercolours and tempera. She studied art at the the Chelsea Polytechnic 1931, at the RA Schools, and at the Royal College of Art where she learned mural decoration. After winning the competition to decorate the ceiling of the new Senate House of London University in 1937 she gained a Rome Scholarship in 1938, but her studies were cut short by the outbreak of war. Exhibited at the RA, RBA, NEAC, In the provinces and abroad. Most famous for her paintings of London damaged by the Blitz in World War II.
