James Muirhead was a noted Scottish Clockmaker who began work in 1817. Around 1848 he received a Royal Appointment from Queen Victoria and also became a maker to the Admiralty. Muirhead expanded his reputation by supplying clocks to the Scottish Railways and from 1860 it was renamed James Muirhead & Son. Muirhead earned a reputation for quality chronometers, as well as carriage and longcase clocks.
