Vincent Balfour-Browne was born in London and studied at Oxford before locating to Dumfriesshire. As a keen deer stalker he was drawn to the Scottish Highlands and excelled in producing highly evocative works that give a strong sense of the natural environment and the native birds and animals within it. The artists is considered to be one of the finest Scottish sporting and wildlife artists of any period. Exhibitions of his work were held annually during his lifetime in London.
