William Chawner - Silversmith

The Silver making firm of Chawner & Co was founded in 1815 by William Chawner who began as an apprentice in the trade in 1793. His firm gained a good reputation but when William died in 1834, his son was unwilling to continue the family business, so instead the firm went to a new relative named George Adams. Chawner & Co thrived under Adams and grew to become a leading maker of quality silverware at the time. In 1875 they released a pattern book of Silver Flatware which would become extremely influential. The firm was sold in 1883 to Holland, Alnwinckle & Slater. At LoveAntiques we have a good selection of antique pieces by William Chawner, Chawner & Co and George Adams, all offered by trusted and knowledgeable dealers.
