Description
Fabulous large 19th century European octagonal pottery bowl. Slip decorated, it depicts a naively painted man in the centre who is throwing pot or turning a lathe I think with some items either side and an over hanging tree. Around the wall of the bowl is quite elaborate decoration of an alternating pattern of colours separated with green sprigs and the outer rim has applied moulded decoration of leaves and flowers formed from discs of clay, that are also used to form linking swags. All decorated in orange-red, brown and green on a cream ground. The reverse is unglazed with comb marks.
declaration
